How I Set a Session Limit

A simple routine for setting a time and entertainment budget before you start.

Quick answer: choose your time and entertainment budget in advance, use reminders or account controls, and stop when either limit is reached. No mid-session negotiations.

How do I decide on a limit?

Before I open a game, I choose how long I’m willing to spend and what amount I’m treating as entertainment money. Making that call later is harder, so I try to make it while my head is clear.

What do I do when I reach it?

If I hit either limit, that’s my cue to log off. I don’t add time or money to try to change the result; the limit only works if I keep it.

When should I take a break?

I also take a break if I’m irritated, distracted, or playing just because I feel I should. If it stops being enjoyable, there’s no reason to force another round.

My stop points

  1. Choose your time and spend limits before opening the game.
  2. Set a reminder or use the account controls available to you.
  3. Stop when you reach either limit.
  4. Step away if you feel pressure to keep playing.
A note from me: I use this as a reminder to decide before I start. It doesn’t choose a budget for anyone; use limits that fit your situation and local rules.

When either limit is reached, stop the session. For account-level financial limits, check the controls offered by the operator.
