Midnight
at John’s.
A homemade Halloween slot with pumpkins, ghosts, a rabbit Wild and absolutely no real money.
Play the free demo ↓I wanted a Halloween slot that felt like my notebook had swallowed an arcade cabinet. So I built one: five columns, three rows, old-school horizontal lines, a few spooky symbols and a rabbit who turns up as the Wild. The artwork and rules are ours; the screenshot that sparked the idea stayed a reference, not a template.
It is a browser toy. You begin with 500 virtual credits, can change the virtual bet, and can restart whenever the ghosts eat your balance. There are no deposits, prizes, accounts or withdrawals. The fun is watching the little system work and understanding every result.

Meet the midnight crew.
Seven characters painted for these reels. Here they are at a size where you can actually see them.

What the hell just happened on those reels?
We built this to be readable. Three horizontal rows are the only paylines. A row pays when the first three or more symbols from the left match; John’s rabbit Wild can stand in for a regular symbol. Moons are Scatters: count them anywhere on the board. Three or more pay a separate amount and add five free spins. The little glow marks the cells that paid.
There is no “hot reel” secret hiding behind the fog. Each cell is selected independently in your browser using its built-in cryptographic random number generator and the symbol weights below. This is an original demo game, not certified casino software and not a model of any commercial slot. A run of losses does not make the next spin due.
The rules, with the lights on.
How credits move
- Start with 500 virtual credits.
- Pick a total bet of 3, 6, 12 or 30 credits. It is split equally across the three horizontal lines.
- Each paid spin deducts the total bet. A free spin does not deduct credits, but uses the selected bet to calculate its awards.
- Each row pays for three, four or five matching symbols in order from the left. The rabbit Wild substitutes for any regular symbol, but not the Moon Scatter.
- Three or more Moons anywhere pay a scatter award and add five free spins, with a maximum of 20 free spins held at once.
Example: With a 6-credit total bet, each line stakes 2 credits. Three pumpkins on one line pay 3 × 2 = 6 credits. Other winning lines and scatter awards are added separately.
Line paytable
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3× | 8× | 20× | |
| 3× | 8× | 18× | |
| 2× | 6× | 15× | |
| 2× | 5× | 12× | |
| 5× | 12× | 30× | |
| 8× | 20× | 50× |
Moon Scatters: 3 Moons pay 2× the total bet; 4 pay 5×; 5 or more pay 10×. Any result of 3 or more also adds five free spins.
Are the symbols equally likely?
No. Each board cell is an independent draw: Pumpkin 22%, Ghost 21%, Bat 18%, Candy 16%, Black cat 10%, Rabbit Wild 7%, Moon Scatter 6%. These weights describe this toy’s code, not the odds of any casino game.
Can I win or withdraw anything?
No. Credits exist only on this page. The Reset button restores 500 virtual credits, and a page reload clears the session. There is no deposit, account, wallet, prize or withdrawal.
Is this the same as a casino slot?
No. It is a simple browser game with disclosed rules. It has no certification, commercial reel strips or operator connection. If you want to understand an actual slot, read that game’s current paytable and the operator’s terms.
Why I made the rules visible
It would be easy to slap a “MEGA WIN” sign over a nice pumpkin and leave the rest mysterious. That is the boring version. Here, you can change the stake, see which line paid, read the exact multipliers and reset the demo. The game can still surprise you; it should not make you guess what it just did.
For real games, I use my paytable guide to decode symbols and features. If you came here for Halloween aesthetics, take a look at my spooky slot picks. Our cabinet is deliberately its own thing: no commercial art, no provider branding, no pretend cashout button.
